Genting unveils US$3bn Miami masterplan
Genting Malaysia Berhad has moved forward with its international expansion plans after the unveiling of a US$3bn (£1.9m, EUR2.2bn) masterplan for Resorts World Miami, US.
A number of mixed uses will be incorporated into the planned destination resort, which is set to comprise approximately 10 million sq ft (929,000sq m) of space on the city's waterfront.
Four hotels offering a total of 5,200 bedrooms and around 1,000 residential units are to form part of the Resorts World Miami project, along with more than 50 restaurants, bars and clubs.
Iconic towers will sit on top of an eight-storey podium, which will boast visitor facilities such as more than 50 restaurants, bars and clubs; a retail galleria; and extensive convention space.
Each level of Resorts World Miami is designed with outdoor terraces overlooking Biscyane Bay, with the podium rooftop featuring a 3.6-acre (1.5-hectare) outdoor lagoon.
A casino could also be included if the Florida state legislature and governor back destination resort legislation permitting the facility.
Miami-based Arquitectonica is the firm responsible for drawing up the masterplan, which is also set to include a 3-mile (4.8km) Baywalk linking the resort with a number of attractions.
Arquitectonica co-founder and principal Bernardo Fort-Brescia said: "Resorts World Miami introduces a new vocabulary of architecture to Florida, one that is inspired by the ocean and Florida's coral reefs."
