Giga-coaster structure completed at King's Dominion
Engineers have completed the construction of the Intimidator 305 roller coaster at the King's Dominion theme park in Richmond, Virginia, US.
The new attraction stands 305ft (93m) tall and will reach speeds of 92mph (150kmh) during a three-minute ride along the 5,100ft (1,55km) long track.
Designed and built by Intamin AG of Switzerland, the US$25m (£15.17m, 17.5m euro) coaster has been named after the stock car racer Dale 'The Intimidator' Earnhardt.
Other new additions to the offering at King's Dominion for the 2010 season include Planet Snoopy, based on the Peanuts cartoon franchise, which replaces the former Nickelodeon Central/Hanna Barbara attraction.
Kings Dominion is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, which last month was acquired by Apollo Global Management.
