Glamorgan CC scores on the radio
In a move to assist umpires in the scoring of county cricket matches, Glamorgan Cricket Club has acquired four of Icom’s new PMR 446 IC-4088SR licence free radios.
The radios are mainly being used to make sure that the scoring decisions are clear and correct – vitally important since the club publishes the figures directly onto Teletext – with the scorer having one and the umpire another.
Allowing instant communication between users in and around buildings and across short distances, the IC-4088SR is claimed to be ideal for a wide range of sport and leisure applications.
It features a large, easy to read LCD, a simple voice scrambler and a function which indicates if the other radios in a group are out of range. It also has eight different radio channels and 38 group codes to choose from, ensuring clear communications with other sets.
Importantly, the radio comes supplied with a charger and four rechargeable batteries.
Equally important to Glamorgan Cricket Club, which it attributes to the discreet size of the radios, is the fact that it has had no complaints from cricket purists about them…
