Glasgow to host 2015 gymnastics event
The Federation of International Gymnastics (FIG) has named Glasgow as host of the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships - the first time the event has come to Scotland.
British Gymnastics, Glasgow City Council, EventScotland and UK Sport worked as part of the bid team for the event, with Glasgow holding off Paris, France and Orlando, US. The new £120m Scottish National Arena - under development at the SECC - will play host to the event, with more than 500 gymnasts from 80 countries expected to take part.
British Gymnastics chief executive officer Jane Allen said: "The bid process saw sport and government working seamlessly to provide a superb package for competitors, officials and fans alike." Hugh Robertson, minister for sport and the Olympics, added: "We have worked very hard with the International Federation, particularly at Sport Accord, to bring the championships to Scotland."
