Glastonbury gets go-ahead
Glastonbury Festivals has been granted a public entertainments licence which allows this year's event to go ahead, but has been warned that gatecrashers must be kept out.
The three day festival won the approval of the Mendip District Council for the weekend of June 28 to 30 on the condition that no more than 105,000 people enter the site.
Security will be of the highest priority, with a 3.5m fence ensuring anyone without a ticket cannot gatecrash the event. The future of one of Britain's most popular musical events will depend on there being no repeat of 2000, when more than double the licensed number of people attended the festival.
Michael Eavis, the farmer who hosts the festival on his land in Pilton Somerset, has written an open letter begging those without tickets to stay away: 'Most of you probably know that for years people have been getting into Glastonbury without tickets. This year things have to change of the festival will be gone forever. Don't come without a ticket.'
More information about the festival will be posted on the website in the coming months. Details: www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk
