Glastonbury leisure centre set for community-operated future
Mendip District Council (MDC) has announced that members of the local community will have the chance to shape plans for the future of a leisure centre in Glastonbury, Somerset.
A recent council consultation into the future of Tor Sports and Leisure found a number of people express an interest in the community working to secure the facility's future.
MDC said Avalon Leisure will now be brought in to operate the centre on an interim basis, subject to cabinet approval, while members of the community work up plans for its future.
John Parham, the council's portfolio holder for governance, assets and public spaces, said: "We clearly hear the desire for a community run facility, and we are content to continue to manage the facility to give the community the time and space to develop their plans."
