Golf course reopens at fire-hit St Albans venue
A golf course has reopened in St Albans, Hertfordshire, following a blaze that "destroyed" the main building of the town's Batchwood Golf and Tennis Centre on 10 August.
St Albans City and District Council is working with operator Leisure Connection in order to discuss short-term options for the site, along with users of the tennis and gym facilities. Gym members have been given access to other council-owned fitness facilities in the district and attempts to secure alternative provision for community and elite tennis are continuing.
Mike Wakely, the council's portfolio holder for sports, leisure and heritage, said: "We need to work with local people and our partners to consider options for the future, and the council's new leadership team has asked officers to start work on this without delay."
