Golf resort to open spa
The independently-owned Mere Golf and Country Club near Knutsford in Cheshire will launch a £4m day spa early next year.
The Spa at The Mere will boast seven treatment rooms, a large indoor pool, hammam, rasul, a hydrotherapy area, an aroma steamroom, a caldarium and a salt infusion room.
The holistic treatments will be supplied by Carita and Aromatherapy Associates and packages include facials, massages, body wraps, hot stones, mud treatments and pedicures.
Facilities will also include a large health and fitness club and an aerobics studio.
The spa has been designed by Chris Mather with Alistair Johnson of Spa Creators working as a consultant on the development.
It will be open to both club members and non-members and will be primarily marketed as a day spa.
The opening of the spa is part of a larger, £15m redevelopment of the Mere estate, which will include the launch of a new five-star luxury hotel and three new restaurants.
The 81-bedroom hotel is scheduled to open in 2012.
The 150-acre Mere Golf and Country Club is owned by Mark Boler and includes a James Braid-designed, 71-par golf course.
