Green light for Lord's 2012 archery plans
Westminster City Council (WCC) has approved planning permission for the installation of temporary facilities at Lord's cricket ground, London, which is to host Olympic archery events.
An archery range; a warm-up range; seating for up to 5,000 spectators and associated facilities; and areas for athletes and officials will be provided at the historic cricket venue in St John's Wood. Provisionally scheduled to take place between 27 July and 3 August 2012, the archery competition will see two sessions held per day with competitors shooting across the square towards the ground's Media Centre.
Temporary spectator stands will be positioned either side of the range, with all structures removed once the events have concluded. London 2012 organising committee chair Sebastian Coe said: "Lord's will be a spectacular venue for hosting the Games in 2012 and the Olympic archery will be an exciting competition for both spectators and athletes."
WCC planning committee chair Alistair Moss added: "Lord's is a word-class sporting venue and will be ideal for hosting the archery event in 2012." Image: Lord's is to host the 2012 Olympic archery competition
