Grimshaw to design Miami Science Museum
UK-based architects Grimshaw have been selected to design the new $275m (£139m, 204m euro) Miami Science Museum in Florida, US.
The winning design pipped fellow UK-based architects Zaha Hadid and San Francisco-based design firm Steven Holl.
The three firms were ranked from a list of five finalists competing for the role of design architect, which will provide the overall concept for the museum.
Museum officials are hoping to complete the move into the new facility by 2011.
As part of the rejuvenation plans, the institution recently changed its name from the Miami Museum of Science & Planetarium to Miami Science Museum.
The proposed 200,000sq ft museum is to be built on four acres of land.
Facilities at the new museum will include an aquarium spanning three floors, an rooftop observatory, a 300-seat planetarium and a wildlife centre.
