Ground-breaking for Great Berlin Wheel
A ground-breaking ceremony was held earlier this month in Germany for the Great Berlin Wheel.
The attraction will begin operating by the end of 2009 in the heart of the former city of West Berlin, at Hertzallee, close to the famous Ku?damm shopping mall.
Consisting of 36 air-conditioned capsules each with a capacity of 40 people, the 185m high wheel will move at 25cm per second and a full revolution will take 35 minutes.
Passengers will learn about the history, architecture, and cultural and business life of the city of Berlin.
The wheel’s three-storey departure hall will boast cafés, lounges, snack-bars, restaurants and shops as well as a banqueting facility for up to 800 guests.
The operator, Great Berlin Wheel GmbH & Co, is collaborating with the nearby Berlin Zoo to offer reduced price admission to both attractions.
