HDC celebrates heritage award
The Historic Dockyard Chatham (HDC) in Kent has celebrated receiving a top European heritage commendation with a ceremony featuring culture secretary Tessa Jowell as guest of honour.
Earlier this year, the HDC won a Cultural Landscapes medal at the Europa Nostra Awards, recognising the dockyard’s heritage achievements following an £18m capital investment programme. HDC was chosen from more than 190 projects in 27 countries.
The awards are split into three types, diploma, medal and prize. In the Cultural Landscapes category, the HDC was the only attraction to win a medal and was lauded for “a programme of conservation undertaken to the highest of professional standards”.
The awards promote high standards in conservation practice. Details: www.europanostra.org
