Hewlett-Packard could be the latest technology giant to enter the growing smartwatch market this year, with rumours within the sector suggesting that a fashion-focused device could be released in the autumn.

It was first reported by fashion blog Fashionista that HP has decided to partner with members-only, discounted shopping site Gilt in order to sell the device, which has been designed by Michael Bastian.

Renderings released by Gilt show a luxurious device more suited as a fashion statement than a health and fitness offering, however few details have been confirmed about the product.

According to reports, the watch will combine with an app operated from a mobile device, allowing users to receive email and text message notifications, control music remotely, while also being able to check the weather, stocks and sports updates.

HP’s intentions for the health and fitness market remain unclear, but what is obvious is that the market is to continue to grow this year, as both technology giants and sports brands further invest in research, development and product launches.

Footsteps have already been made by Samsung as it saw the launch of its Gear devices.

Adidas is also rumoured to be planning to match its partnership with Google Fit with the release of its own wearable offering.

Elsewhere, Nike has continued its commitment to the market by opening its own research and development lab, while both Apple and Microsoft are thought to be planning to launch their own smartwatches by the end of the year.
