Image: A 40-acre site is set to be transformed

The former UK headquarters of camera firm Kodak in north west London is to undergo an extensive £320m transformation after plans for the project were given the green light by Harrow Council.

Land Securities will be responsible for delivering the redevelopment, which spans 40 acres (16 hectares) and will lead to the creation of an entire new community.

Among the proposals is a new park featuring wildflower meadows; playgrounds; and water features, which will revamp the concrete landscape and double the amount of green space.

Early phases of the scheme will focus on a 10-acre (4-hectare) plot to the south east of the site, before moving onto a 20-acre (8-hectare) area occupied by a former sports centre.

Harrow Council portfolio holder for planning and economic development Keith Ferry said: "This is a once in a lifetime chance to create a positive future for this important site.

"Despite the difficult economic climate, the council has worked hard with Land Securities to ensure the surrounding area is able to enjoy the benefits of this new investment."
