Hart District Council considering potential Fleet leisure centre
Hart District Council (HDR) has appointed Alliance Leisure to draw up a proposal and business plan for a new leisure centre in Fleet.
The site for the proposed £14m leisure centre could see an area of around 6,000sq m (19,600sq ft) become the home of an eight-lane, 25m long swimming pool, plus a learner pool, sports hall, studio facility, gym and café. Additionally both a senior and junior all-weather pitch, primarily to be used for football, with some natural grass pitches also would be included.
HDC chief executive Geoff Bonner said that if the council can secure additional funding, climbing wall, spa, high wire, caving and skateboarding facilities could also be added to the proposal.
Alliance Leisure will develop the proposal and business plan over the next three months and at the end of those three months the council will have the option to continue with Alliance, or to use an alternative procurement route. Alliance has provided more than 90 projects with an estimated investment into UK leisure of more than £50m.
