Haunted 5D experience opens in Missouri
The House, a stand-alone 5D interactive haunted house, has opened its doors on "The Strip" in Branson, Missouri, US.
The 200sq m (2,150sq ft) attraction, designed in partnership by Alterface and Clostermann Design, includes a number of 3D screens, special effects and animatronics. It will be owned and operated by Los Angeles-based attractions operator Kuvera Attractions.
Called Castle of Chaos, the attraction's storyline features a fictitious actress who mysteriously disappeared with her whole team in a medieval castle during shooting of a horror movie in the 1920s. The theatre has 24 seats and has been themed to support the storyline, while the audio visual content will take guests through an interactive game played out on the screens.
Armed with a revolver, visitors take part in the story and can see the impacts of their shots on screen. Insects crawling on the ground explode, candle flames flicker, parts of the decor wobble, and ghosts are freed from the urns that have held them prisoner.
Benoît Cornet, chief executive of Alterface, said: "The market for haunted houses is huge in the United States and not only over the Halloween period. Thousands of attractions are based on this theme.
"With The House, we aim to set a new standard in this sector by introducing our interactive technology. In a single room with just limited floor space, it's now possible to create a whole world of games and thrills for theme parks and entertainment centers."
The attraction is housed in a new building next to the Hollywood Wax Museum, also operated by Kuvera.
Founded in 1965, Kuvera opened the world's first Hollywood Wax Museum on the Walk of Fame in Los Angeles in the same year.
Belgium-based Alterface was founded in 2001 and develops, markets and implements interactive entertainment and education solutions.
