Have your say
SkillsActive and the Register of Exercise Professionals (REPs) have launched initial draft proposals for a major restructuring of the education and professional structures that underpin qualifications within the industry.
Throughout 2008 SkillsActive and REPs have been reviewing the frameworks that define working with special needs populations and on which the REPs levels of membership are based. The review began with a survey of more than 2,000 REPs' members to assess current levels of expertise and working practises. Findings from this survey were then taken on the road during a series of fact-finding forums around the UK and involving more than 80 employer organisations.
Feedback from these processes has now been collated and draft proposals for the new structure can be viewed at www.skillsactive.com/resources/consultations-have-your-say Jean-ann Marnoch, the Registrar said: "I hope that this consultation will move the industry to a new simpler structure. It is important for us to be understood by our customers and related health professions if we are to provide a solution to government worries about the nation's health and increase opportunities for REPs' members."
Ben Gittus, Qualifications Manager at SkillsActive added: "This is a major consultation which seeks views on proposals which will affect every aspect of training and working in fitness, it is vital as many people as possible have their say'. A consultation event is also being planned for Monday 24 November 2008.
