Headingley Carnegie Stadium plans unveiled
Plans have been unveiled for the redevelopment of the newly-named Headingley Carnegie Stadium, including the construction of an £11m shared stand between the adjoining cricket and rugby venues.
The complex has been renamed as part of a 10-year deal signed by Leeds Metropolitan University, following the successful purchase of the cricket ground by Yorkshire County Cricket Club at the end of 2005.
The new eastern stand currently under construction in the rugby stadium will be known as the Carnegie Stand.
Yorkshire CCC recently secured test status for Headingley for the next 15 years on the basis of making substantial improvements – the new joint stand will increase cricket capacity to 20,000.
Yorkshire CCC chair, Robin Smith said: “Headingley would become one of the finest sports complexes in the country, providing world class cricket, rugby and educational facilities.”
