The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has announced that £2m worth of confirmed support will be shared among two major conservation and restoration schemes in Yorkshire.

Doncaster's Conisborough Castle is to undergo a £1.1m programme of improvements after the HLF granted £900,000 towards the Doncaster Council and English Heritage-led project.

A new visitor facility housing educational and exhibition spaces are proposed, in addition to the creation of new learning materials such as Discovery Visit workshops for schools.

Meanwhile, a Victorian conservatory at the Grade II*-listed Scampston Hall in Ryedale will benefit from critical restoration work to save it from "certain collapse".

Scampston Conservatory Preservation Co will be leading the project, which will see the new-look conservatory used for education and heritage activities.

Fiona Spiers, head of the HLF for Yorkshire and the Humber, said: "This investment will see two of Yorkshire's much-loved heritage sites brought to life."
