Heritage funding boost for Scottish sites
Scottish culture minister Fiona Hyslop has revealed that five heritage projects are to receive a share of more than £1.3m of Scottish Government funding.
Lews Castle; Newbattle Abbey College; Dundee's High Mill; Alexander Scott's Hospital; and Balloch Castle are the five properties to receive Building Repair Grants. The funding has been made available through Historic Scotland and will towards efforts to rejuvenate the properties and help bring them back into use.
Dundee's High Mill and Lews Castle in Stornoway received the largest share of the grants (£500,000), both of which are to become new tourist attractions. Hyslop said: "Each of these projects will create jobs and contribute locally in the long term. It is imperative that we continue to support this and encourage people to use our historic environment as a catalyst for wider redevelopment."
