Heritage hotel could become apartments
The Grade II-listed Grange Hotel in Rhyl could be converted into 28 apartments after plans to partially demolish the fire-damaged property were submitted to Denbighshire County Council.
Owner Japa Developments wants to refurbish the seafront building with the help of JPH Architects while preserving its 1850s features. Original plans for project, submitted before the fire, were thrown out by councillors. A decision on these plans is expected in May.
John Holden, partner at JPH Architects, told the BBC: "There was some resistance into changing the function of the building but we believe that it wouldn't survive as a hotel given the decline in the tourism industry. "The apartments could be a mixed development including holiday and short-term lettings. It hasn't yet been decided."
