Heritage is named operator for Spinnaker Tower
Heritage Projects has been appointed as the operator of the Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth, the centrepiece of the £78m redevelopment of Portsmouth Harbour.
The Tower, with viewing platforms at 100m, 105m and 110m above the Solent and a waterside café/bar, will open mid-2004 and be operated by Heritage with a profit share going to both Heritage and the City Council.
“Under this deal,” says Phil Shaddock, leader of the Portsmouth City Council, “both the city council and Heritage will share in the success of the Tower.”
The 165m high Spinnaker Tower will have a “walk on air” glass floor in the lowest platform and an external panoramic lift. “We will offer visitors to the Spinnaker Tower a spectacular view at an immense height,” said Juliana Delaney, managing director of Heritage.
Heritage Projects – part of the Continuum Group, recently opened an underground attraction in Edinburgh, The Real Mary King’s Close. The Portsmouth Harbour redevelopment project is supported by £38m from the Millennium Commission. Details: www.heritageprojects.co.uk
