Hotel giant expands into Paraguay with ‘milestone project’
Hilton and Paraguayan conglomerate Grupo Cartes have signed a management agreement for a new-build Hilton hotel in Asuncion, Paraguay, marking Hilton’s first foray into the country.
Hilton Ascunsion, scheduled for 2021, will occupy part of a 600,000 square-foot mixed-use complex in the city and will house a 4,400sq ft (409sq m) spa featuring five treatment rooms, four manicure and pedicure rooms, a relaxation space and a sauna.
The hotel will also feature a 1,100sq ft (102sq m) swimming pool and a fitness centre.
"We are excited about this new destination, as we continue our brand's expansion throughout Latin America and globally," said Shawn Mcateer, Hilton vice president of global brand management and full-service hotels. "The stylish Hilton Asuncion will be a fantastic addition to our brand portfolio and we look forward to welcoming travellers with Hilton hospitality in this bustling city."
Ascunsion is the capital of Paraguay and home to an array of tourist attractions, including historical attractions and modern shopping centres.
Grupo Cartes, meanwhile, is a multifarious operation with subsidiaries and interests in tobacco, banking, livestock, sport and beverages. It is owned by Paraguayan president Horacio Cartes.
