Image: The A-listed Moubray House on the Royal Mile

Historic Scotland is to take over responsibility of Moubray House - one of Edinburgh's oldest properties - and turn it into a visitor attraction.

A unique agreement has been reached with the house's owner, Debra Stonecipher, which will see the property being operated as a new visitor facility on the Royal Mile, offering specialist pre-booked tours with detailed interpretation of its origins, history and development over the centuries

With its origins in the 15th century, the A-listed Moubray House on the city's Royal Mile is an important part of Scotland's history.

The property reflects the fashions of interior design from its Scottish Renaissance board-and-beam painted ceiling to its later plaster ceiling moulded with exotic fruits and flowers.

Stonecipher has recently carried out painstaking restoration work to reveal and conserve many of its period features and was keen to see the property pass to Historic Scotland.
