Dutch design team reimagine clubhouse concept for Hong Kong rooftop park
Dutch architecture and design studio Concrete have “broken down the walls” of the clubhouse concept to create an open and transformable park on the rooftop of one of Hong Kong’s most exclusive new residential towers.
The 26 storey Skypark tower is located among the bustling streets of Mong Kok – one of the densest areas of Hong Kong.
Concrete were responsible for designing all the building’s communal areas, from the street entrance to the top-floor clubhouse and park, and wanted to create an escape from the crowded and narrow streets below.
The design concept was to capture the “in-between spaces” where interiors and landscapes merge.
A kitchen, library and bar sit together with a gym, swimming pool and art gallery in the clubhouse, which is connected to the rooftop via a large outside staircase – a space that doubles as an auditorium for an outdoor cinema.
“In a location where space is limited and people bump into each other, Concrete created a place for residents to escape the chaos and for people to truly connect,” said the practice. “This created an opportunity to redesign the essence of a residents-clubhouse within this dense and cosmopolitan city.”
Skypark, which has 439 apartments, has been created by Hong Kong real estate firm New World Development.
Local studio P&T Architects, landscape designers ALN and structural engineer CM Wong & Associates collaborated with Concrete on the project.
