Tech giant, Huawei, has launched a new Health Lab, where it will conduct research on how it can "provide better health and fitness support for users with wearables".

Located in Helsinki, Finland, the 1,000sq m lab will house research facilities and more than 20 types of sports equipment.

The lab will be led by a multi-disciplinary scientific research team, comprising six doctors in science and 20 experts from five fields – physiology, AI, machine learning, software testing and software engineering.

The lab contains five major test areas – a counter-current pool, a ski simulator, both multi-functional and instrumented treadmills and an open gym area with various types of cardiovascular equipment.

The treadmill can test running, cycling, wheelchair racing and more with an adjustable speed of up to 50km/h.

It can also import GPX data from GPS devices to simulate real-world terrains and routes and more.

Together, the five test areas can simulate the conditions of more than 20 sports, while tracking 200 physiological and biomechanical indicators.

Researchers will use them to test and monitor Huawei wearable devices, such as the Watch GT 4.
