London’s Excel ready to host the 2017 IAAF Congress

London’s Excel Centre has been named as the next host of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Congress in August 2017.

Chosen for its close proximity to Queen Elizabeth Park – the stage for the the 2012 London Olympic Games and the upcoming IAAF World Championships next year – the Excel will hold the event on 2 and 3 August.

The IAAF Congress will occur just before the World Championships, which are due to take place been 4 and 13 August. It will be the biggest event hosted by the Populous-designed Olympic Stadium since the Olympics, with 2,000 athletes expected from 214 member confederations.

More than 800 delegates from 200 member federations are due to attend the Congress.

The previous Congress was held in Beijing, China, where current president Sebastian Coe was elected to replace Lamine Diack. Diack has since been indicted in the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) report which exposed alleged corruption and doping in athletics.
