IHG opens on Times Square
The 607-room InterContinental New York Times Square has opened in New York, US.
The 36-storey property - developed and owned by a partnership led by affiliates of Tishman Hotel & Realty - is the largest new-build hotel to open in Manhattan since 2002 and will be the largest hotel in New York to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. The hotel offers 25 Panoramic Avenue Suites offering views of the city which IHG says "allow guests to sightsee without moving their feet", while its three-bedroom, 2,700sq ft (251sq m) bi-level Penthouse Suite provides panoramic views of Times Square, Broadway, the New York City skyline and the Hudson River.
The hotel - close to the Javits Convention Centre - features 10 meeting rooms totaling 10,000sq ft (929sq m) of meeting and event space, including a 4,000sq ft (372sq m) ballroom. Other facilities include celebrity chef Todd English's newest restaurant concept, Ça Va, which will open later this month; plus a Concierge Lounge; 24-hour business and fitness centres; wired and wireless internet in guestrooms and public areas; 42in HDTV flat panel televisions and touch-screen computers in all guestrooms; and a courtyard viewing garden in the lobby complete with a reflecting pool and sculptures.
The hotel - designed by Gensler and with interiors by Jeffery Beers International - will have its grand opening ceremony on 29 July.
