IHRSA 2014: CEO Joe Moore hails industry ALS campaign
IHRSA president and CEO Joe Moore paid tribute to the health and fitness industry's growing sense of philanthropism during his welcome address at IHRSA Europe in Amsterdam this morning (17 October).
Moore highlighted the concerted efforts of IHRSA members to support industry pioneer and Life Fitness founder Augie Nieto - who was diagnosed with ALS aged 47 - through the Augie's Quest campaign. This initiative saw IHRSA members raise millions of dollars and win an American Society of Association Executives award for their efforts, and subsequently dovetailed with the viral ALS 'Ice Bucket Challenge' campaign to reach an even wider audience.
Moore also revealed that IHRSA ex-officio Brent Darden will present the initial results and progression strategy for the Why Get Active? campaign - which has seen the hashtag used 1.1 million times online so far - at the IHRSA 2015 conference in Los Angeles.
Health Club Management will be in attendance for the duration of the event and (WiFi permitting) will be live reporting on key developments via the HCM website.
A preview of the event can be found in the September edition of HCM magazine on pp.26-27.
