ING unveils Ferensway development
Developers ING Real Estate, has unveiled detailed plans for its £160m mixed-use project in Hull.
The St. Stephen's development in Ferensway is 40-acre brownfield site in the city centre. It is being developed in partnership with Hull City Council, Yorkshire Forward and English Partnerships, via the city's urban regeneration company, Hull Citybuild.
ING is funding the commercial components of the scheme as well as contributing towards the cost of the development's new transport interchange, which has been designed by Wilkinson Eyre. The developers contribute towards the Albermarle Music Centre for children's music and the new home for Hull Truck Theatre, which boasts a 450-seat auditorium.
Designed by Foster & Partners, the scheme also includes an 80-bedroom hotel, as well as 30,000sq m of retail along a central, covered 'street'. Due to start on site this year, St. Stephen's is expected to act as another attraction for visitors drawn to the city by The Deep and the Museum's Quarter. The development is due to complete in 2006.
