Iconic New York hotel reopens
New York's Pierre hotel on Central Park at Fifth Avenue and 61st Street has reopened following completion of the final phase of a US$100m (£60.5m, 67.8m euro) renovation programme.
The hotel, US flagship for Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, has seen the introduction of 11 Grand Suites, including the Presidential Suite. These one-and two-bedroom suites each feature their own unique look, with custom furnishings, hand-crafted finishes and details such as rich silk and brocade fabrics, Murano glass chandeliers and hand-knotted carpets, plus Bang & Olufsen audio and Sony home theatre systems and high speed wired and wireless Internet connections. It also now offers 189 redesigned residential-style guest rooms, including 49 suites, with interiors by James Park Associates.
Elsewhere, first floor public areas have been reconfigured to accommodate a reception area; Two E, the hotel's new destination lounge and bar, is in what was the original reading room; and a new restaurant, Le Caprice, opens its doors next month. Three new boardrooms now adjoin the hotel's business centre on the fourth floor and can accommodate meetings of up to 75 executives. These have been designed to complement the hotel's banquet spaces on the second floor which were extensively restored in 2007 as part of the first phase of renovations.
A new advertising campaign has been created to mark the reopening; entitled 'Pierre Again' it features celebratory moments in the hotel's history.
