Improved public spaces for Liverpool
The regeneration of Liverpool's city centre waterfront has been assigned £1.9m of funding from the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA) to improve public spaces.
The grant is for the second phase of the Waterfront Connections project, which will improve links between the Albert Dock, Kings Waterfront, Mann Island, the Pier Head and the Princes Dock.
The project is being led by regeneration company Liverpool Vision, which is heading major schemes across the city as well as the five-year ongoing regeneration of Liverpool's waterfront.
Liverpool Vision also works with partners including Liverpool City Council, the Albert Dock Company, Gower Street Estates, Kings Waterfront Estates, English Partnerships, Neptune Developments and Liverpool Culture Company.
The project's second phase will include the redevelopment of Canning Maritime Park with improved landscaping and new pedestrian bridges across graving docks.
When complete, Salthouse Dock will have better mooring facilities, Albert Dock will feature new street furniture and lighting and Kings Waterfront will boast new public art.
The final aspect will be the completion of a pedestrian link across the Pier Head which will connect with the new ferry terminal.
Peter White, NWDA executive director of development, said: "We recognise the potential of Liverpool's waterfront as an international visitor destination and we have invested substantially in a number of significant developments to maximise its contribution to the local and regional economy."
Other projects include the new cruise liner terminal, the Leeds-Liverpool canal link, Museum of Liverpool and ACC Liverpool, which features the Echo Arena and BT Convention Centre.
"The City Centre Waterfront has undergone an impressive transformation over the last five years. Vision and its partners have delivered a series of complementary attractions from Princes Dock to Kings Waterfront, which are already having a major impact on the city's economy.
"The NWDA funding will encourage greater movement between these attractions."
