New research from Live Performance Australia (LPA) has reported increased attendances at live entertainment events across the country in 2011, when compared with the previous year.
The LPA's eighth annual Ticket Attendance and Revenue Survey found 17.5 million had attended performing arts events last year - up 0.6 per cent on the previous 12 months.
However, LPA also reported a marginal fall in revenue to AU$1.3bn (US$1.3bn, EUR1.1bn, £855m) - a drop attributed to a 0.7 per cent decrease in average ticket prices in 2011.
LPA chief executive Evelyn Richardson said: "Demand for live entertainment remained strong in 2011, despite generally difficult economic conditions."
