Indian entry for EDG’s Barcode concept
Melbourne-based Entertainment Development Group (EDG) has teamed up with Indian Modi Group of Industries (MGI) to build and operate a Barcode entertainment venue in New Delhi.
Scheduled to open by the end of the year in the Priya Complex, the 5,000sq ft (464sq m) Barcode New Delhi will include 30 interactive games, two fully licensed bars, a cocktail lounge and pool tables.
Umesh Modi, MGI’s chair, said: “The Indian population is increasingly looking for alternative ways to spend their leisure time and Barcode is a venue that is far more than a place to just eat and drink, but to play the latest interactive games and to mingle with other people.”
The contract between the two companies will see MGI pay for the right to licence the Barcode brand in India, while EDG will assist in the design, construction and operation of the venue.
“Our long-term objective is to build international-style entertainment centres with EDG all over India,” said Modi.
EDG is currently planning to expand in Australia, with three new Barcode sites scheduled for opening in the next year in the Melbourne area. The company currently operates 30 venues across five brands across the country.
