Plans for a 20,500sq m (220,000sq ft) theme park called Majhe Jag (My World) to be built in Bhandupeshwar Kund, Mumbai, have been approved by India’s state government.

The area, declared a tourism development zone, will consist of a variety of rides, a mini train and an amphitheatre. Work on the development will come in two phases, with the first phase costing RS30m (US$500,000, €380,000, £300,000) and a total development priced at RS90m (US$1.5m, €1.1m, £905,000).

The attraction will be Mumbai’s first amusement park and will be implemented under the Centre’s Lake Conservation Policy. In the first phase, a giant wheel, sky range, trampolines, mini train and the amphitheatre will be constructed, while in the second phase there will be a beautification of lake and construction of retaining wall.

Funding for the project has come from the Mumbai Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) – which is also working on the development side of things. MHADA hopes to have the facility open within a year and has set a date for August 2015.
