Indoor theme park opens at Mall of America
An indoor Nickelodeon theme park has opened in the Mall of America.
The US$25m (£12.4m, 15.7m euro) Nickelodeon Universe, the network's first theme park, opened on 15 March.
The 3 hectare (7 acre) amusement park includes 18 Nickelodeon-themed rides, including a roller coaster called SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge; Avatar Airbender; and The Naked Brothers Crazy Cars.
The mall is one of the largest shopping destinations in the US.
The indoor park is seen as part of the network’s strategy of gaining a foothold in the international travel and destination market.
The company has had Nickelodeon-themed zones in theme parks before but never a full, standalone park.
In 2005, a Nickelodeon-themed resort opened in Orlando, and in August 2008, Nickelodeon is set to launch its first-ever family cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas, with a Western Caribbean itinerary.
