Industrial action to close Swindon facility
Swindon Borough Council (SBC) has announced that the town's Link Centre will be shut this weekend due to industrial action by members of the Unison trade union.
Classes and sessions scheduled for 25-26 September will no longer take place, while Swindon Wildcats' ice hockey match with Guildford has been brought forward a day to 24 September. Swindon Dolphins' swimming championship and ice skating lessons have fallen victim to the industrial action, which will see the majority of staff walk out as union members or in support of strikers.
SBC cabinet member for leisure and corporate services Fionuala Foley said: "I would like to apologise to everyone who uses the Link Centre for the inconvenience this is likely to cause them." Other leisure centres in Swindon are unaffected by the action.
