Is climate change here already?
I don't know - but the weather is certainly having an impact on many events, In November we have experienced some of the coldest days and also the hottest days for many years.
The north NSW coast has also been hit by the fourth major flood this year. The forthcoming Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) legislation will be interesting particularly to see what impact it may have on the amusement industry.
The shows and festivals have had mixed results with most operators reporting very poor shows in Victoria and quite a reduction in company Christmas functions. The Fishers Ghost Festival held at Cambelltown was a great success, however, with record attendances.
At this time there has been a mass exodus from the country with over 300 Australians attending the IAAPA conference in Las Vegas. I am sure it was a great success.
Queensland Workcover has implemented new rules for plugs on generators and this looks like another impost on the traveling rides. This will have to be costed into the ride prices for 2010.
We are a very regulated industry and we hope the patrons do appreciate this fact.
Frustration at the regulations is unhelpful as we must continue dialogue with the regulators to increase their awareness of problems facing the industry.
Hopefully, operators have found a good spot to run their business during the summer holidays.
