Jowell to speak on licensing reform at BISL conference
Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Tessa Jowell will be giving a keynote addess at the Business in Sport and Leisure annual conference which takes place next week.
In her first major speech on licensing reform since the Queen's speech, Jowell will cover how deregulation will be rolled out and how the controls given to local authorities will contribute towards reducing the government's crime and disorder targets.
Michael Oliver of the Mintel International Group will unveil important new consumer research on gambling, as the government prepares for a new Bill on Gambling expected next year. A range of senior industry leaders in gambling, led by Neil Goulden of Gala Leisure Group and including Chris Bell from Ladbrokes, David Boden from The Rank Group and Russell Hoyle from Leisure Link will discuss the report.
There will also be a session on the new Charity Commission's policy towards sport and a look at possible tax incentives to persuade people to become more active for life. Stewart Miller, managing director of David Lloyd Leisure will also be looking at the role of the private sector in health and fitness.
