Universal Studios Florida's newest attraction is scheduled to officially debut on 2 July in the shape of Despicable Me : Minion Mayhem.

The new simulator ride, based on Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment's 2010 animated film Despicable Me, will take visitors on a 3D adventure in the company of Gru, Margo, Edith and Agnes and a variety of other 'mischievous minions'. It begins with families being transformed into minions, before training to join Gru's minion army and then moving on to the world's first minion-inspired dance party.

On entering the living room and wearing 3D minion goggles, visitors are scanned in the Minionization Prep Room for 'human germs'. Guests then begin their training aboard Minion Transformation Pods, with mayhem resulting as things start to go wrong.

A trip through Gru's lab follows, with the ride concluding under a glowing disco ball where guests can show off their skills - and watch themselves on giant interactive projection screens - as they dance with the minions to Boogie Fever. Built by Switzerland-based Intamin, designed by Universal Creative Illumination Entertainment and to be situated in Production Central, Despicable Me : Minion Mayhem will replace Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast which closed in August 2011.

A complementary gift shop called Super Silly Stuff will retail Despicable Me-related merchandise. The store is themed to the carnival which Gru and the Girls visit in the original film.
