Jungle-inspired facility opens in Mexico
A new spa has launched at the Grand Velas Spa Resort Riviera Maya in Mexico.
Inspired by the jungle and natural water pools of the Yucatan Peninsula, the 89,000sq ft (8,268sq m) spa was designed by Mexican architects Ricardo Elias and Alexis Elias of EliasElias AR, with consultancy from Diane Mestre of Pro-Spa.
The US$15m (10.7m euro, £9.3m) facility is set below ground level and has a 40 treatment rooms. Guests enter on the spa's top floor, at the Balinese-influenced lobby, before going below for their treatments.
The natural subterranean level of the spa forms its centre and is dedicated to its wide range of relaxing and restorative facilities.
Influenced by the stones, plants and streams specific to the Riviera Maya landscape, other features include a clay room, a circular glass-tile lined steamroom and an Ice Room. Details: rivieramaya.grandvelas.com
