Jurassic Coast Gallery to open at Dorset County Museum
A new gallery, focusing on the Jurassic stretch of coast between East Devon and Dorset in the UK is to open at Dorchester’s Dorset County Museum in August 2006.
The Jurassic Coast Gallery will be centred around the museum’s extensive geological collections and include animated dinosaurs, touch screen interactives, tactile exhibits and a selection of family-friendly activities suitable for all age groups.
The Jurassic Coast, named after its rich geological remains, is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, due to being one of the most significant earth science sites in the world. Each mile of the coast around this area represents just under two million years of geological time.
The Dorset County Museum is an independent museum, owned and managed by the Dorset Natural History and Archaeological Society with grant assistance from Dorset County Council. Details: www.dorsetcountymuseum.org
