Jurassic Coast plans to go on display
Outline proposals for the creation of a new 'gateway' to the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site at Orcombe Point near Exmouth, Devon, are to go on display on 19 April.
The plans are to be put on show at Exmouth Town Hall, with members of the public invited to comment. Devon County Council (DCC) officers and designers will be on hand. >
Exmouth is at the western edge of the World Heritage Site, with the Geoneedle installed at Orcombe Point in 2002 to mark the designation of the Jurassic Coast. A new interpretation venue is now planned by DCC in partnership with East Devon District Council; Exmouth Town Council; the National Trust; and Clinton Devon Estates.
Interpretation company Bright 3D has been appointed to deliver "a package of measures" that will enhance the area's World Heritage Site status and improve the visitor experience. DCC cabinet member for environmental and regulatory services Roger Croad said: "Exmouth deserves a scheme that is worthy of its status as the gateway to the Jurassic Coast and Orcombe is the natural place for this as the boundary of the site and the start of the 95 mile geological 'walk through time'."
