Keeping an 'i' on UK tourism
The foreign and commonwealth secretary, Jack Straw has launched a website providing up-to-the-minute information on the UK.
Developed by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in conjunction with a number of partners, including the British Tourist Authority, the British Council and British Trade International, the website has been designed to promote UK trade and culture abroad.
The site, www.i-uk.com, comprises four core subject areas: life & culture, education, business and visiting the UK, and aims to provide a user-friendly directory of information about everything from UK tourism, culture, travel, sport, fashion, music, education, trade and industry.
The life & culture section showcases UK heritage from architecture, design, parks and gardens, to comedy, television, the monarchy and religion. Visitors to the site can also see the best of British sport including football, cricket and rugby.
Speaking at the launch of i-uk.com, Jack Straw said: 'The new website showcases the best of British and will promote UK trade and culture abroad and attract investment, tourism and talent to the UK.'
Managed centrally, the website will link in to other sites, contain magazine-style features and answers to the most commonly asked questions about the UK. Details: www.i-uk.com or +44 (0)20 7479 0321
