King's Lynn venue set for football revival
The Walks stadium in King's Lynn, Norfolk, is set to continue hosting senior football from the 2010-11 season onwards after the local authority selected Lynn FC as the venue's new tenant.
Lynn FC, a new football club which has been created following the closure of King's Lynn Football Club (KLFC) in late 2009, has been handed a 25-year lease by King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council (KLWNBC) to use the stadium as its home. The new club, set up by Speedway promoter Keith Chapman, is now set to formally apply for registration to the Football Association (FA) and submit an application to join the Ridgeons League for the start of next season.
KLWNBC cabinet member for sports, arts and open spaces, Elizabeth Nockolds, said: "We were particularly impressed with Lynn FC's strong business focus and their knowledge and experience of running a successful stadium-based sports business. "We were also impressed with their commitment to grass-roots football and their wish to develop and strengthen the Football in the Community Scheme."
In December 2009, KLFC of the Unibond League Premier Division lost its battle against a High Court winding up order, which was brought against the Norfolk club due to an outstanding £77,000 tax bill owned to HM Revenue and Customs. The new club will trade as Lynn FC but intends to be known as King's Lynn Football Club.
