LSP responds to 50m pool claims
Lincolnshire Sports Partnership (LSP) has responded to a local newspaper's campaign to establish a 50m swimming pool in Lincoln, by stating that its position has been misrepresented.
According to the Lincolnshire Echo, LSP chief executive, Steve De Wint, opposed the scheme, saying that there was not enough demand for a Olympic-sized pool because not enough residents are involved in fitness activities.
In a statement to Leisure Opportunities, LSP denied it had ever ruled out the possibility of establishing new pool in the city, and added that it had no vested interest in any facilities across the county.
"The Partnership has never equated a lack of participation to the specifics of building a 50m Pool, but has pointed out the competing usage needs of different facility users," the statement said.
"It is also believed that the population required to ensure the viability of a 50m pool, while retaining the existing pool infrastructure, would be significant and certainly higher than the estimated population of the wider Lincoln area.
"The Partnership supports many successful facility development projects across the county, including pool developments in Louth, Boston, Market Rasen and Sleaford."
