Lancaster Market poised for museum move?
An extended Lancaster City Museum could provide a new home for the city's market under plans to be discussed by the local authority on 15 February.
One of the options to be considered by Lancaster City Council's (LCC) cabinet is a revamp of the attraction to provide an improved museum and indoor market. A report has been compiled by consultants NCS on the future of the market, which is to go before councillors at the meeting.
It is believed that the relocation of the market to the museum would deliver advantages, such as providing traders with a more central location in Lancaster. Councillors will also be asked to recognise the King's Own Royal Regimental Museum in the city's heritage and look to improve it should changes be made to the City Museum.
LCC cabinet member with responsibility for markets Jon Barry said: "If using part of the museum site proved to be feasible in terms of both improving museum facilities and creating a more vibrant market which adds to the heritage value of the city, then I think this could be an excellent solution."
