Landscape Gallery to open in Wales
The Oriel y Parc landscape gallery in St Davids will open to the public tomorrow.
The gallery, owned and managed by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, in partnership with the National Museum Wales, will house a collection of Graham Sutherland works on permanent display as well as rolling exhibitions including pieces by Picasso, Lowry and Rembrandt.
It will also house an education centre, a National Park Tourist Information Centre, and a café selling local produce as well providing space for artists in residence.
The Welsh Assembly Government has funded the development of the gallery through a £1.6m Objective 1 grant and a further £1.5m gathered from sources including the Pathway to Prosperity programme and Visit Wales. National Museum Wales and the National Park Authority have also made contributions.
Rhodri Morgan, the Welsh first minister, said: “Oriel y Parc is a very unusual marriage between a National Park and a National Museum and will attract more tourists into the Pembrokeshire region.
"There will be world class art on display here, both by way of the visiting exhibitions and the scintillating interpretation of the Pembrokeshire coast and landscape in Graham Sutherland’s paintings that will be on permanent display.
