Las Vegas Sands' £2bn bid
US-based casino operator Las Vegas Sands (LVS) has submitted a proposal to the Singapore government to build the first casino resort in the country by 2009.
The £2bn (US$3.6bn, 3bn euro) Marina Bay Sands casino resort would include 2,500 hotel rooms, three entertainment venues, the region’s first museum, a theatre, restaurants, spa and fitness facilities and a Paiza Club.
Genting of Malaysia, MGM Mirage and Harrah’s Entertainment have also submitted bids.
Although substantially smaller than its three rivals, LVS has already demonstrated its success in Asia with the Sands Macao casino resort in China.
Fourth-quarter operating income at the resort in Macao increased by 56 per cent to £53.7m (US$93.3m, e77m) against the previous year. Details: www.lasvegassands.com
