Leisure World development to benefit from council expenditure scheme?
The £16m redevelopment of Leisure World in Bridlington, East Yorkshire, could come to fruition sooner if an accelerated capital expenditure programme is approved by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
The council will decide on Wednesday (25 February) whether or not to bring forward £100m of capital expenditure in order to provide jobs during the current economic downturn.
Currently, the council’s capital programme is between £80m and £90m a year for the next three years, with a total overall forward programme of more than £600m. If the scheme is approved, £100m will be brought forward, meaning an extra £30m of investment each year until 2012.
The leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, Stephen Parnaby, said: “We have been looking at action we can take as an authority with a responsibility to do everything we can for the local economy.”
The Leisure World scheme would see the existing site being demolished and rebuilt with a swimming pool and fitness suite.
